I must admit, Tokyo Mew Mew has always been a guilty pleasure of mine... Maybe because I like pretty colors, anthro/animal characters, and spiffy Japanese name puns (F*** YOU 4KIDS).

Anyhoo, this particular piece here is what I entered for SacAnime 2007. Won first place for it too (pops invisible collar). Must say I'm fairly proud of it. The two weeks it took for me to make this involved careful color studies, character studies, dozens of scrapped composition ideas, etc, but I'm proud of it regardless.

My only problem is that my line work is very elementary. I don't use good pens; just random clicky-pens I can buy (or find off of the ground lol). However, the ink type doesn't respond well with Prisma Color Markers, which is why some of the areas have a purplish or watery look to them.

I initially started off with Ichigo in the center, and I figured "I gotta do something exciting with this." Therefore, I came up with the concept of having each character in their own circular space devoted to the nature of their name pun and/or their element. That being said, Ichigo's is surrounded by strawberries and pink, Mint's has mint leaves and the sky, Purin's is covered in custard/whipped cream and a golden mountain, Lettuce's is an ocean surrounded by lettuce, and Zakuro's is a moonlit night surrounded by persimmon flowers/seeds....

You know... You'd think for a shoujo anime, they could have come up with something more... I dunno, delectable for Lettuce... I mean seriously, you've got all of these sweet treats, and THEN you got lettuce. It just ain't right.
