Megatron: Exile pt 5 END by EnvySkort Megatron: Exile pt 5 END by EnvySkort
So in doing this comic, I realized a few things.

1) I don't think there was any real way to rework Megs into a good-guy.  There just isn't.  This is a guy who built his entire life around getting back at an oppressive system and the complacent folks who allowed it to continue, so he's never not going to believe that his cause (at least initially) was just.

2) I really freaking love drawing space.  Space is awesome.  But then I watch Star Trek and it reminds me that space is essentially Australia in that everything is trying to kill you.

3) My tablet is a damn trooper for putting up with all the work I put into this.  This is easily the most detail I've done in a digitally colored comic yet, so I'm pretty proud of myself and consider this an accomplishment.

So there you have it.  My take on Megs' thoughts after Predacons Rising.

Altogether, this is actually a 10-page comic; each of the Megatron: Exile deviations are actually two 8 1/2 by 11 pages put together in Photoshop Elements.  As per usual, pages were drawn in pencil and inked with PITT pens, after which they were scanned and colored digitally in Photoshop Elements 9.

Welp.  My job is done here.  Now it's time to go and watch me some Rescue Bots.

Maybe you should make a sequel to this where someone as tormented like Arcee or even Knockout comes to bring him out of his exile and explains to him that he has a chance to redeem himself by helping rebuild their broken home. I mean, if Megatron does return in the new series (the sequel to Transformers Prime), we would need to know the possibilities on how he returned and you are a great writer so I believe your story would be most accurate and enchanting.

Just read through all five pages and I think this is beautiful, Megatron was my favorite character in TFP he was so well written, his body language was astounding, and just the way he looked told you how threatening he could really be. This is for sure in character for him, I would imagine after the hell Unicron put him through he would be looking back on his mistakes, rethinking about everything he did and the impact it had on those around him and his home world alike. I enjoyed this little five page comic very much, well done :)

I just also wanted to quickly add that I think the opening music for Elfen Lied is very befitting for this mini-series, I don't know why to me it just fits with the tone

This comic reminds me of this part in the Watchmen comic when Dr.Manhattan flees to Mars after his press fall out and has his whole monologue on fate that can essentially be summarized to, "it's always too late. Always has been, always will be, too late."

awesome comic with deep dialogue :) thanks.

Wow. That was deep and the best addition to the end of TFP for Megatron's story. He has a real burden on his shoulders and he is accepting of his fate without letting himself slip into nothing and die in disrepair. He does not feel proud of what he had done but he knew some good came out of it. I can see him like this thinking the same thing while trying to survive in the wilderness of the universe as an exile. Not looking to be forgiven or redeemed. Great job with the comic and with the story. I feel you did the character justice.

This... Is beautiful. :happycry: One of my favorite parts about reading the prequel books to TFP is getting such a good look into Megatron's head.  You.... Well, you captured his head (and by head, I mean the thoughts within it, not his actual head XD) perfectly. This comic is now my part of my canon.

So, if he isn't Megatronus, Megatron or Galvatron... Does he go back to being D-16?

He may no longer be a warrior, but I do not think the mech in this comic could ever go back to being D-16 either. D-16 has long been since buried beneath the more powerful personas this mech adopted. Honestly, I do not think even he knows what his name and function is any more.

I suppose even if he could go back to being D-16, he'd probably never want to anyways. I guess he's just dropping everything he knows and starting a new life alone, which I guess he sees to be the benefit for everyone and himself.

Whoa, I never thought of it that way....
You did a spectacular job of depicting Megatron, not as the cruel war monger, but as he once was; someone who was fighting for for peace and equality but lost himself in the war as the lust for power consumed him. How did you do it? How did you find the words?
Reply
:iconenvyskort:
EnvySkort Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2014
Finding the words wasn't terribly difficult.  Not exactly.  I kept in mind that, yes, he's a monster, but I also wanted to balance it with him acknowledging his roots as well.  What I absolutely DIDN'T want to do is make him some angsty woobie, and I didn't want to make this comic into a gigantic "let's feel bad for Megatron and huggle him."  He had good reasons for starting his fight for equality, but it's hard to ignore the fact that he created biological weapons and what-not.

I really wished the writers put in this much thought with the closing episodes of TF Prime as you put in these 5 pages of a speculation. :|

Anyways, this was really friggin' well written and drawn. I do enjoy your serious comics and you do a fantastic job drawing them. :) I always thought Megatron was at one point the greatest anti-hero of all time. To quote Mr. Dent, "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

I think the thing is, if the writers had had another season or so just to wrap things up a bit better, then it would have been fine.  Or heck, if they wanted to expand this into the comics and just do a Post-Great War TFP arc, I'd read the HELL out of it.

All things considered, there's a lot of stuff on the plates of the Autobots.  How are they going to rebuild Cybertron, not just in terms of buildings and space/ground bridges, but governmental systems?  How will they handle grudges/bad blood once Autobots and Decepticons start coming back to Cybertron and starting firefights or segregating themselves?  Will anyone fight for the autonomy of the remaining Vehicons?  How does KnockOut fare on his new team?  What happens if Airachnid is able to make her way off of the moon?

Really, in the hands of thoughtful and creative people, all of those scenarios could EASILY get their own comic books and be awesome reads.

And thanks for the compliment, since I don't really do serious stuff too much and am always a little nervous because I don't want it to come out pretentious.  And yeah, Megs started out as a guy who anyone who's suffered social injustice could get behind...  Then he turns into a energon-snorting robo-Hitler.  Go fig.

True story there, my friend.
The last handful of episodes were mightily rushed... I have a feeling the creators planned for another season, but corporate had another idea, hence the seemingly nonsensical ending. I'm just wondering what the new series is going to be about? Like you said, there are a lot of loose ends from Prime, and I'm just curious to see trail they follow first.

I could get behind those endings being turned into mini arcs. That'd be really awesome. However, I don't know if that will be a thing since IDW looks like they're focusing their attention on Dark Cybertron's conclusion. But who knows! Maybe we might be able to throw more money at them soon! =)

Anytime! =) I think you wrote it quite well! Haha, yeah you gotta watch out for the revolutionaries... dey can go crazy sometimes.

Beautiful work.  I only wish the the writers would have given us something like this as a means of closure.  It was implied, but one really had to put a lot of thought into the how and why.

Perhaps they did that on purpose...wanted the fans to draw their own conclusions.  At least that's my hope.

Ne-who, I digress.  This comic is beautiful:  Well-written and colored.  Bravo!  :D

I guess that's what fanfiction is for; to explore the unanswered questions or play around with fan speculation.  I know over on TFW2005 there was a thread discussing the idea of Megs having his own spinoff comic wherein he tries to re-find himself in the process of coming across/fighting oppression on other worlds.  Getting back to his saner, more believable roots of fighting the good fight, as it were.

And thanks, glad you liked the comic.

this is great, although I always figured that before disappearing entirely Megatron would have decreed a final order to whatever remaining decepticon forces remained in the cosmos, basically saying "the war is over, try to forget past grudges, and cooperate to rebuild our damaged world."  I'm pretty sure Bumblebee and the other autobots would say that but it would have more impact coming from Megatron.

When Optimus lost his memory and Megatron took him in as his clerk.  Megatron basically told him the story of the autobot/decepticon war with Ratchet in his place.  If you say someone else did the things you did so that others would think he's a terrible person, you HAVE to realize that you are in fact a terrible person unless you're totally deluded.

Megatron twice had the opportunity to restore Cybertron and be declared its ruler, even a hero, for doing so, but instead chose to use the technology as a weapon to destroy humanity.  He justified it by saying the worlds were linked and he wanted to rule both, but I'm pretty sure everyone was wondering why he didn't just fix Cybertron FIRST, then attack Earth.  (I could have sworn Knockout even said as much.

His most loyal soldier could not reconcile his loyalty with his honor code, handing over the forge of Solus Prime to the autobots and trying to kill Starscream for basically doing the exact thing he did (grave desecration.)  If Megatron was into introspection he might have looked at his actions at any of these points and realized the flaw in his ideology.

I don't think Megs had it in him to go that far and tell everyone to play nice.  True, it would have given the whole "peace and kumbayaa for everyone on Cybertron" more clout if the Big Bad himself had called for it, but I don't think he was at such a state of mind that he was READY for peace yet.

I suppose, but it is true that Megatron no longer has any motivation to continue the war, by his own admission he lost the taste for dominating others once he was on the receiving end, plus the power of the primes and the matrix of leadership he coveted for over 4 million years is gone now, he can't even really rely on spite as an excuse anymore because Optimus, his chief rival and the one he probably blamed for "stealing" the power of the primes from him, is dead.  Then again over the course of the series I saw at least 3 opportunities for him to realize what a horrible person he was if he'd only be introspective for a bit so he might really be just that stubborn...
